IS ONE MENTOR ENOUGH?

Image result for is one mentor enough

I had a discussion with some folks, some time ago, about having different mentors. It generated a lot of argument. Therefore, i just felt we should discuss it here too.
Please, do send your opinions in the comment box. Let's brainstorm.

Can one person serve as a mentor in all the key areas of life such as spiritual, finance, business, career, health and so on?”

Let's have your opinion in the comment box.

  1. Thank you Mr. Essien, already you have made it specified, in areas like spiritual, finance etc, to me everyone has it area of excellency, one tree cannot make a forest, so no man is an icon of wisdom. To me one Mentor is never enough. One of my Mentors said, there is no professor in the school of aviator cuz no matter how good you're, you need instructions from the control tower to operate, this is my own opinion, I still stand to be corrected or challenged

  2. For me, I think you can have as many mentors as possible in different areas. Once you believe in them and you agree to their principles, then they can mentor you. Have serveral mentors helps in addressing issues from different angles.

  3. Well, I'll like to begin by saying I believe that everyone has made really good contribution's. This thing can be looked at in two different perspectives and for the fear of no one being willing to take things from the other point, I have chosen to write on both.
Like everyone has said and I admit that its is the more "rational" thing to do. By getting more than one person experienced in each of these areas and try to pattern your life after theirs in all the aspects outlined already you are bound to get results.
On the other hand, you can have one man who operates based on kingdom principles and has everything going well for him in each and everyone of these areas. Let me remind you that sometimes the things we do might appear as foolishness in the eyes of the common man, but when enough "work and faith" are put in play, we get results. I'm not advocating that you should have one or many mentors, but all I'm saying is that you should know where you stand and try not to take what "any mentor" says hook line and sinker. Its good to have a mentor to checkmate you and for reference purposes, but you have the wealth of knowledge at your disposal. Apply it to each area of your life and you are bound to get results. Remember it's all about your personal relationship, you're already going through Christ, you don't need an extra channel to reach your full potential. The highest they can do for you is checkmate you...

  4. Well, considering the fact that all human beings are imperfect, I believe that picking or mentor means desiring their flaws in totality. Come to think of it, who wants that? My guess is nobody. So I believe that taking a little greatness here and there makes a better individual.

  5. Here is an analogy that can clarify the question. If Stephen Keshi places an advert in a newspaper calling on people to attend a seminar on how they can achieve mastery in football, there is the likelihood that he would get more than enough participants. But if he places an advert offering to train people who are interested in becoming pilots, will he attract participants? Most likely not!

The reason is simple; you can only give what you have. Keshi as a football coach is square peg in a square hole, but he would not fit the bill as a pilot. In the same vein, I should think that to get the best out of a mentoring relationship, you should look for those who have results in the areas where you need a mentor. It would work that way.

  6. One mentor is never enough. Little but unequal drops of water make an ocean. As the "mentee" there is need to strike a balance. Be cautious, vigilant and sensitive in aligning with mentors though. Not all that glitters is gold.
